Als das Rittertum in Blüte stand
The German translation of When Knighthood Was in Flower – the romance of Charles Brandon and Mary Tudor
Charles Major’s historical romance, newly translated into German by Nico Reuter.
England in the early 16th century. Mary Tudor, sister of Henry VIII, is expected to follow her brother’s dynastic plans. At court she meets Charles Brandon, a man whose background hardly makes him a suitable match for a princess. Their story unfolds amid royal power, court intrigue and the desire for personal freedom.

A rediscovered classic in a new German translation
When Knighthood Was in Flower was first published in 1898. Its success led to a stage adaptation featuring Julia Marlowe as Mary Tudor. In 1901, the Bowen-Merrill Company published a special Julia Marlowe edition containing scenes from the stage production.
This German translation follows the 1901 edition. Historical stage photographs were restored and reinserted in their original positions, and the historical supplementary material was retained.
The book launches the Forgotten Classics series, bringing a once widely read novel back to German-speaking readers. The book itself is in German.
